BIG AIR MILAN – FREESTYLE OVER THE CITY –…

  • November 15, 2016June 24, 2018
  • by Renato Corpaci

It’s a very appealing set: a black sky and the Palazzo Italia architectures at “Experience”, the new concept for the former EXPO site ground near Milano. That’s  the background to the acrobatic evolutions of these very young and wild Freestyle  competitors (male and female). Below are some of these ski artists at work. “SAINT JEROME WRITING” AT THE AMBROSIANA IN MILANO

  • November 14, 2016June 24, 2018
  • by Renato Corpaci

Caravaggio, “San Girolamo scrivente”, 1606. Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Sala Federiciana. Nikon D750, 24 mm (24-120 mm ƒ/4) 0,6" ƒ/4 ISO 640

The iconography of Saint Jerome, one of four Doctors of the Church, is conditioned by a passage in his autobiography which describes the hardness of his period of penance in the desert of Chalcis. Half naked, his hair dirty, ungroomed, his body wasted, ill-concealed by his sackcloth, gaunt from the mortification of the flesh, his belly bloated, surrounded by scorpions and wild beasts. 13 THOUGHTS AT A BIKE SHOW

  • November 10, 2016June 24, 2018
  • by Renato Corpaci

My favorite girl. Nikon D750 24 mm (24-120.0 mm ƒ/4) 1/4" ƒ/8 ISO 100

1) Girls on a bike at a fair show are a very kitsch matter, an insult to feminism and an affront to men’s intelligence. But they are pretty to watch. A tour of EICMA, the major bike show in the World (November 10th through 13th).   Read more “13 THOUGHTS AT A BIKE SHOW” →

RUBENS AND THE BIRTH OF BAROQUE

  • November 2, 2016June 24, 2018
  • by Renato Corpaci

“Rubens e la nascita del Barocco”. Nikon D810, 24 mm (24-120.0 mm ƒ/4) 1/3" ƒ/9 ISO 800

When Peter Paul Rubens, in 1600 arrived in Italy, he found the place not so bad. It happens, with foreigners. He ended up overstaying his vacation to the point that, centuries later, art historian Bernard Berenson defined the Flemish «an Italian painter»; the Belgian had spent eight intense years working for important clients, above all the Gonzaga in Mantua, and had picked up – so to speak – the basics of Italianity. Sebastião Salgado – probably the most acclaimed and revered living photographer – exhibits in Forlì, Italy, his most ambitious and demanding project. At Musei San Domenico, Genesis portrays a state of nature, the conditions of what the lives of people might have been like before society came into existence. CARTIER-BRESSON PHOTOGRAPHER

  • October 22, 2016December 8, 2018
  • by Renato Corpaci

matisse

Facing a giant like Henri Cartier-Bresson, one cannot help feeling like a midget. Since I first had a camera in my hands, I have always looked at him, more than as a model: as a master. Monza’s exhibit cannot exhaust 70 years of activity of the man among the founders of Magnum Photos, but describes him accurately.  Read more “CARTIER-BRESSON PHOTOGRAPHER” →

We did not have great expectations from our stay in Marbella, so we didn’t have much reason to be disappointed. Read more “MARBELLA, COSTA DEL SOL’S CLASSIEST (AND MOST EXPENSIVE) RESORT” →

AYAMONTE: A QUIET PLACE

  • October 9, 2016June 24, 2018

Ayamonte. Pool-side over the border with Portugal from the Parador de Turismo. Nikon D810 24 mm (24 mm ƒ/1.4) 1/15" ƒ/11 ISO 64

Away from the crowd and the traffic of the Costa del Sol, Ayamonte appears to be a sleepy, deserted village where time seems to have come to a halt. Read more “AYAMONTE: A QUIET PLACE” →
