VITRIOL BY GILLO DORFLES

Gillo Dorfles (106 and kicking) surprises the art community (again), by presenting at the Palazzo della Triennale his last exploit.
VITRIOL is an imaginary character conceived by the aged artist, writer and art critic in a painting in 2010, now the hero of a series of sketches drown in the second half of 2016, eighteen of which are shown in the exhibit curated by Aldo Colonetti and Luigi Sansone.
VITRIOL is an acronym used by the alchemists meaning “Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem” or “Visit the inside of the Hearth and, through consecutive purifications, you will find the hidden stone”.
«Some of my sketches come from the unconscious and show-up on paper through pictorial elements coming obviously from an unaware state of consciousness» stated Gillo Dorfles in front of an affectioned crowd.
The artist, born in Trieste in 1910, graduated in neuropsychiatry in 1934. Along with critics Luciano Anceschi, Renato Barilli, Fausto Curi, Umberto Eco and Angelo Guglielmi, he was part of the Neoavanguardia movement and supported the Gruppo ’63. He has carried out his activity as an art critic, as a writer on the subject of design, architecture, esthetics and fashion, and as a painter.
Last year he curated the exhibition named The logic of approximation, in art and life at the Palazzo della Permanente in Milano, for EXPO In Città 2015. He lives and works in Milano.
